Initially the primary education of the children of service personnel at Mhow Station was looked after by the Combat Central School, managed by the College of Combat (now Army War College) and nursery education by the Nursery School, run by DSOI, Mhow. On the recommendations of HQ MB Area, Jabalpur, approval for opening Army School at Mhow, was accorded by the COAS in 1983. Subsequently, to facilitate opening of Army School, the existing Combat Central School and the Nursery School were closed and Army School was opened in July 1983, with the existing staff, students and infrastructure of these two schools. A new Managing Committee was composed with Commandant, College of Combat, as the Patron and Deputy Commandant, College of Combat, as the Chairman. Initially a sum of Rs 5,00,000/- (Rupees five lacs only) was received as Corpus on 16 July 1983 to be invested in Long Term Deposit. Presently the school is under the jurisdiction of MCTE with the Commandant, MCTE as the Patron and Commander, Faculty of Communication Engineering as the Chairman of the school.
Affiliation - Army Public School Mhow was sanctioned provisional affiliation wef 01 May 84 to 30 Apr 86 by the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. During the session 1983-84, the school had classes up to VII standard and as per the Management Policy one higher class was inducted every year. During the session of 1985-86, Class X was introduced and CBSE granted affiliation and permission to start Class X wef 01 May 86 to 30 Apr 89. During the session of 1987-88, affiliation for Senior Secondary Classes, XI and XII, was accorded for a period of three years wef 01 May 87 to 30 Apr 90 for the following subjects :-
(a) Compulsory Subjects (i) English (ii) Hindi
(b) Elective Subjects (i) Mathematics (ii) Physics (iii) Chemistry (iv) Biology
During the session 1992-93, permission to start Computer Science as an elective subject was accorded by the CBSE. During the Academic Session 1997-98, permission to introduce Commerce stream was received and subsequently, during the Academic Session 2011-12, permission to introduce Humanities stream was granted. The affiliation is under Government / Government aided category.
At present, the school is offering three main streams i.e. Science, Commerce and Humanities for Classes XI and XII with the following subjects :-
(a) Science Stream (i) Mathematics. (ii) Physics. (iii) Chemistry. (iv) Biology. (v) Computer Science. (vi) Physical Education.
(b) Commerce Stream (i) Economics. (ii) Business Studies. (iii) Accountancy. (iv) Informatics Practices. (v) Physical Education. (c) Humanities Stream (i) Economics. (ii) History. (iii) Geography. (iv) Informatics Practices. (v) Physical Education.
The School was re-designated as Army Public School, Mhow wef 01 Jul 2011 vide HQ AWES, Delhi e-mail letter No B/45714/WC/AWES dated 19 May 2011.
